I lived on a roof and worked at Joe's in 90..maybe 91 - it was only for a few months - hats off to those that could do longer! Clearly, all is more right with the world than we think if you guys(was Chris/Doug and a third I can't recall, maybe Ken?) are still in business. You should consider yourselves a public service to all travellers looking for that story that they will tell to the kids. Sorry that Shots closed, makes me think of Brigitta and Asa (sp?) and another crazy gal from Canada, Martha? All the best to those stepping up to the party trough - enjoy!
oh joe's, as i sit in my cubicle i think back to the magical nights i can't remember spent at your wonderful bar where nobody knew my name and neither did i. hope to be back soon.
hey douglas, tell me what's goín on. haven't been there since '89, at shots. hope all is well. rising cock photos take me back,,,it's all the same,,,,,can't beleive mullins still there--well, ok i can. be well sir--you must be 39 by now. ~~~~~craig
Hi guys. I worked at Joes in 97, 98 for both summers. Best time I have ever had. Still see the crew at least once a week back here in NZ. Layne, Dave, Skugs, Oz, Loui, Karl, Bart, Boogs, Fretas, Cintra and the others. I was talking to Dave the other day and we were remembering the day weintroduced the chainsaw to Joes customers amongst other things......

I would appreciate your help so much as it would mean alot to them. My email is kmcgill01@hotmail.com
We stumbled across Joe's late one boozy afternoon in 1990, I think we had wandered down from Shots in the dark. who knows the truth it was months on end of drinking and travelling.
A dutch guy manned the kitchen, a cute blond Aussie girl was just one of the babes at the bar. we seemed to drink free shot after free shot for days; punctuated with beer and scotch. Fried potatos was the only thing I remember eating oh and something akin to road killed chicken.
Every nite we'd announce we were leaving the next day and every afternoon we would turn up at around the 3 oclock opening time and start the lies again. Each nite was the same; drinking, dancing on the bar or kitchen servery, staggering out at some ungodly hour, getting up, throwing up, hit the beach and then back to the bar.
I have vague recollections of the back of the bar catching fire one nite, someone turned on a stray gas tap from some disconnected fitting and the candles on the bar lit it up. Can't remember which one of the guy's coolly wandered over, turned it off and went back to entertaining in one of the side booths.
I finally made the break when I went up to Lisbon for the day to organize a work permit, which meant I could work there and afford to stay longer. (although we seemed to be behind the bar a lot and in the kitchen anyway). For some reason I never made it back.
It is truly a wondrous thing to see the place still kicking, I raise a glass to the three buddies from Canadia who opened the place, I hope you're all alive and well and partying hard.
